Background Physical therapy (PT) is one of the key disciplines in interdisciplinary stroke rehabilitation. The aim of this systematic review was to provide an update of the evidence for stroke rehabilitation interventions in the domain of PT. Methods and Findings Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding PT in stroke rehabilitation were retrieved through a systematic search.

The aim of the present study was to assess the role of action observation treatment (AOT) in the rehabilitation of upper limb motor functions in children with cerebral palsy. We carried out a two-group, parallel randomized controlled trial. Eighteen children (aged 5–11 yr) entered the study: 11 were treated children, and 7 served as controls.
Upper-limb impairment after stroke is caused by weakness, loss of individual joint control, spasticity, and abnormal synergies. Upper-limb movement frequently involves abnormal, stereotyped, and fixed synergies, likely related to the increased use of sub-cortical networks following the stroke. The flexible coordination of the shoulder and elbow joints is also disrupted. New methods for motor ...
robotic therapy has emerged as a promising modality for stroke rehabilitation, as it has the advantage of being able to deliver therapy at a much higher intensity and dosage than conventional therapy. The largest study of robotic therapy conducted to date is the VA ROBOTICS study, a randomized control trial of robotic therapy of the upper limb for patients with chronic stroke using the MIT ...
Modified Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (mCIMT) is one of the treatment options used for the improvement of the function of the paretic limb.To investigate the efficacy of four week duration mCIMT in the management of upper extremity weakness in hemiparetic patients due to stroke.Prospective single blind, parallel randomized controlled ...
The HSSA (High Speed Surface Accuracy) machining system reduces mechanical stress on the machine and extends the life of its components, while obtaining smoother movements and allowing higher feed rate and reduced machining errors.. The CNC 8065 is designed to easily adapt to a broad variety of machine structures managing standard kinematics (parallel kinematics, spherical spindles, rotary ...
Original constraint-induced movement therapy. A form of rehabilitation therapy that consists of three components: immobilisation of the non-paretic arm with a padded mitt for 90% of the waking hours; task-oriented training with a high number of repetitions for about 6 h a day; and, behavioural strategies to improve both compliance and transfer of the practiced activities from the clinical ...
Thus, it is crucial to develop behavioral methods that allow to ascertain the extent of true post-stroke recovery (Alaverdashvili and Whishaw, 2013, Lai et al., 2015). In humans, constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) is one of the most effective rehabilitative strategies to overcome upper limb impairments after stroke (Kwakkel et al., 2015 ...

Constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) was developed to overcome upper limb impairments after stroke and is the most investigated intervention for the rehabilitation of patients. Original CIMT includes constraining of the non-paretic arm and task-oriented training. Modified versions also apply constraining of the non-paretic arm, but not as intensive as original CIMT.
Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the benefit to upper limb function of a home-based version of pediatric constraint-induced movement therapy, which was delivered across 2 months.
CIMT - Research. Rocca et al., 2013. Non-randomized control trial, N = 14. Examined effectiveness of CIMT in children with chronic hemiplegia (congenital or acquired BI), as well as MRI results as predictor of treatment success. Intervention consisted of constraint for 3 hours/day, 7 days/wk for 10 weeks (both at home and in clinic) Findings:
Constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) is a group of interventions that have been shown to produce significant improvement when applied systematically in the amount and quality of movement of the paretic upper extremity (UE) of individuals with stroke in the chronic phase of recovery. 1, 2, 3 The protocol was developed after studies conducted in deafferented primates identified a ...

A recent meta-analysis found a graded effect of modified CIMT, with the largest effects on arm function (measured by the Action Research Arm Test [ARAT]), significant but smaller effects on arm impairment (measured by the FM-UE), and improvements in some kinematic variables but not others. 36 However, no single study has compared improvements at all 3 levels, as was done in the current study ...

6/28/2011· Rehabilitation for children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy (HCP) aimed to improve function of the impaired upper limb (UL) uses a wide range of intervention programs. A new rehabilitative approach, called Action-Observation Therapy, based on the recent discovery of mirror neurons, has been used in adult stroke but not in children. The purpose of the present study is to design a randomised ...

nomenon, similar to that underlying some asymmetric impairments of the motion of the eyes and of the upper limbs. Crouch gait (CG) (bent-hip bent-knee, about 30° minimum knee flexion) might be an effective form of 'forced-use' treatment of the paretic lower limb. It is not known whether it also stimulates a more symmetric muscle power output. Gait analysis on a force treadmill was carried ...
