7/27/2002· Smithy no longer sells this model but grizzly has a very similar machine, the G9729 with a longer bed on the lathe. The biggest shortcoming of the 3 in 1 machines is the constant setting up and breaking down set-ups from lathe to mill or vice versa. Right now I have my machine set-up for a milling job with the mill vise indicated in.

1/21/2005· I have had a Granite for several years, so I can give a fairly decent review of drawbacks. Definitely a better lathe than mill. Mill spindle lacks rigidity, as others noted. Spindle is not parallel to column, so if you try to drill a hole and then raise column for a reamer, you are in a new location.
Used (normal wear), Item for sale is a lightly-used Smithy Granite 1324 Mill/Lathe/Drill Press 3-in-1 machine in excellent condition. This machine was made before Smithy subdivided the Granite 1324 into different models. It is almost identical to the "Classic" version they now sell, except that it includes a spindle lock (offered on the current MAX and above models but not the Classic).
