The gradation of non-coking coal is based on Gross Calorific Value (GCV), the gradation of coking coal is based on ash content and for semi coking /weakly coking coal it is based on ash plus moisture content, as in vogue as per notification. Grades of Coking Coal. Grade: Ash Content:
Removal of inherent moisture from run-of-mine lignite was tested by lock-feeding the lignite, which was previously sized by screening into 25 kg autoclaves. High pressure, up to 4.053 MPa (588 psi), saturated steam was then introduced into the pressure reactor. Reaction time, pressure, temperature and depressurization rates were strictly controlled for each reactor test run.
The high moisture content makes combustion of the coal difficult. The main problem with transporting wet coal is that up to one third of the mass transported may be water. Furthermore, the low recovery efficiency of drying processes, especially where heat is utilised, provides an additional challenge to the wet coal.
What changes is the moisture content. A Coal sampled at the mines will have a moisture content higher than what enters the boiler. The moisture in Coal consists of two parts. One is the moisture held within the molecular structure of the coal called "inherent moisture." Removal takes place only at temperatures greater than 100 deg C.
7/8/2009· The ROM Coal being burned is the high sulfur, bituminous, stoker type, which is 2 ″ (50mm) × 0 ″ in size, which usually varies in "fines" content from about 20 to 40%, and it has changing moisture contents that typically vary from 8 to 13%. The heat value varies from 9,000 to 12,500 BTU's per lb.
It should also be noted that o, a, and w represent the weight percentage of organic, ash, and water content of the rock, respectively.. Eq. (8.6) shows that depending upon the organic and inorganic content of the coal rock, the rock density could vary substantially. In lack of the laboratory measurements for a given coal rock, the organic and ash densities are assumed 1.25 and 2.55 g/cm 3 ...

Coal mining is a thriving industry and 53% of the coal mined in South Africa is used for electricity generation. Mechanization has made coal mining more efficient, but fines generation has subsequently increased. Up to 6% of the run of mine material can report to the -200 μm fraction.

12/2/2016· Coal quality Indonesian coals are generally low in ash and sulphur, but on account of their low rank, they have a high content of volatile matter and moisture. The run-of-mine coal does not generally require preparation and simple crushing and screening suffices to produce a marketable product. The coal has nil or minimal coking properties, …
The Heat Eye is a fully on-line instrument providing second-by-second measurement of the Ash, Moisture and Nett Calorific Value (Nett CV) ie the energy content of conveyed coal. This it produces in real-time rather than by the traditional method of laboratory analysis.
coal. The relationship between the equilibrium moisture content and relative humidity is described by 1 – RH = exp(-KTMen). There was no relationship between the volatile matter content and equilibrium moisture content, but there was an increase in the equilibrium moisture content of the coal with an increase in mineral content.

Early on, freshly mined coal may require treatment at a coal preparation plant in order to make the coal as close to the desired product demanded by customers as possible. Losses arising from these processes are in fact mainly waste matter that has a low coal content, but is recorded as 'raw' or 'run-of-mine' coal by industry associations.
Rank of coal, the classification of coal by degree of hardness, moisture and heat content. There are four major ranks of coal:Anthracite, Bituminous, Lignite, and Sub-bituminous. In terms of Btu content, anthracite has the highest, followed by bituminous coal, sub-bituminous and lignite. Run-of-the-Mine. Run-of-the-mine is the raw mineral ...
