12/12/2013· Calcium carbonate does have (at least) two crystal forms (aragonite and calcite), but I think limestone, chalk and marble are all calcite. I think the difference is due to particle size, how well formed the crystals are and what impurities are present.

The polish really sticks! Well, I don't have any furniture pieces needing a new look but I wondered if the same materials could be used on non-furniture, non-slick surfaced items.
Marble is a sparkling and typically granoblastic rock. Granoblastic rocks have uniformly sized, equidimensional, anhedral grains produced by recrystallization in a solid state (metamorphism). Grain boundaries are usually straight or slightly curved and triple junctions between the adjacent grains define angles of about 120° 2 .
If using a chemical polish, marble should be beautifully clear after it air dries. If not repeat polishing several times. If using chalk, after several hours of air drying, wipe the marble down with a damp, clean cloth. Then, go over again with a dry cloth. After removing any chalk residue, the marble should be clean, clear and sparkling.
